To Kill Shelter or No-Kill Shelter?

Nov 11th, 2009

Hey Mates! The Old man's church group had a discussion about kill vs no-kill shelters this past week and like everything else that happens around here, you know I got something to say.

First of all, let me wish a happy belated Veteran's Day to my dear friend General Mew, who is a refugee from a kitten death center. When his human was dislocated due to human economic circumstance last year, General Mew was relocated to am animal shelter. It was determined by the staff of the center that since he has a heart condition, he would be euthanized. If not for the intervention of the Foxclaws crack commandoes, the General would have been lost to us. He is a grouch, an arch conservative and a fur-ball factory with no regard for proper litter box decorum, but he is also a loving grandfather to us all.

"Murderers very often start out by killing and torturing animals as kids." - Robert K. Ressler, FBI Serial Killer Profiler

The good news is that the old man's church group seems to be overwhelmingly in favor of no-kill shelters, but the proof as they say, is in the pudding. Few of the humans seem to be convicted one way or the other until it's their 'fur-kid' that's on the line. Here at the Tabbitarium, we believe that all life is sacred and yes, the old man does break for squirrels. but that's another story.

In this regard I will just have to say "Whatever it takes, mates! Whatever it takes."
