Me Thinks the Old Man Doth Protest Feline Affection
The old man calls us vermin but Me thinks the old man doth protests too much
This morning he wakes up just like he does every day and goes into the litter-box
room. I wish he wouldn't ruin our secondary water supply the way he does, but
he always gets more when he is done. Note to self: Teach the old man what sand is for.
Thats where I have my "one on one" time with him. While he is sitting there reading
I come up and brush against his leg. "What the hell do you want, vermin?" he asks.
"As if you didn't know" I respond. I look up and slowly blink a few times and he
smiles and puts down the paper he is reading and starts stroking my head and you know
I'm purring up a storm. Then Skinny starts crying from the basement. I feel bad for
him all isolated down there but he can't help being an Alpha-tabby in training and
with all the tabbies we have joining the colony, there just isn't enough money to
get Skinny his operation. So, it's isolate Skinny in the basement or be constantly
cleaning his scent off everything in the house. Skinny still needs to be neutered
and there just isn't any help to do it.
So after the old man goes down and spends some time with Skinny, he takes him and puts
him outdoors. "no, come on! I'll be good, I promise" swears Skinny but you know that
as soon as the old man puts him down, he backs right up to the kitchen wall and let's
fly with his manly scent! I'm laughing to myself, but the old man doesn't think it's
funny and for a second I think he's gonna start yelling at Skinny.
Bill Watterson
He collects himself and puts Skinny out, but you know how kids are. Skinny just doesn't
get why he's outside while all the rest of us are chilling on warm pillows eating
liver treats and playing with our catnip toys. Little Kit makes the mistake of hissing
a little at Skinny. "If you didn't piss on everything, maybe we would all like you
better" says Little Kit. Big Mistake. Jerry lets out a roar and charges after Little Kit.
Fur is everywhere, mates. Oh my God! Now all of us are cheering Little Kit on as he
races across the yard with Skinny in hot pursuit. Finally Little kit crawls under the car
and calls for help. Skinny triumphantly laughs and stretches out in the grass to preen.
So what does the old man do? He comes out of his nice warm house and sits in his driveway
on the ground between Skinny and Little Kit talking softly to Little Kit.
"Come on out" the old man says softly.
"No, that Skinny is a meany-pants" complains Little Kit.
I won't let him hurt you, come on" The old man promises.
"May you get me meat?" asks Little Kit timidly.
"All you can eat, Little one" the old man offers.
With that, Little Kit crawls on his belly over to the old man who picks him up
and carries him inside to a nice bowl of the fanciest fare.
